Meet Kane – People Not Products
12 January 2026
As our series of team interviews continues, here we have Kane McPhee, who started with Aspen Solutions as an Apprentice back in 2021.
Can you tell us a bit about your career journey and what led you to Aspen Solutions?
After leaving School in 2018 I continued my education by attending City of Glasgow College. My course of choice at the time was 3D Art & Design. During my 2 years at College, I completed a NC & HNC but due to the Covid-19 outbreak I didn’t continue with my 3rd year and wanted to change career paths. This is when I decided to take the chance and apply for an open Warehouse apprentice role at Aspen in 2021.
What does a typical day in your role look like, and what do you enjoy most about it?
It can be different day to day. Most of my time is spend preparing devices for customers in our workshop. These device setups can take time, but I do enjoy following the steps of a setup and having everything fall into place. If I am not working on customers machines, then I may be out and about delivering laptops, troubleshooting issues on site or installing new equipment.
What’s been your most memorable moment or achievement at Aspen Solutions so far?
After a couple of months after starting with Aspen we supported the COP26 event at the Scottish Event Campus besides the Hydro. This was my first breath into the big project work that I would be involved in over the coming years.
What skills or qualities do you think are essential for success in your role?
Time management is always the first thing I think of when asked what skills are needed working for an MSP. I would also say that knowing what ticket priority are when working through your queue especially with the devices setups for customers knowing which devise are required sooner than others.
How would you describe the culture at Aspen Solutions, and what makes it a great place to work?
Aspen is a close nit team of employees that all get along. The offer of Flexible working and the regular team outings help the company to feel connected.
What advice would you give to someone looking to build a career in your field?
There are no silly questions. Everyone in this career is always willing to help each other with any questions or queries they have. There is also something to learn also so don’t be hard on yourself if something isn’t working it’s always something that you haven’t thought of or didn’t know to try.
When you’re not at work, how do you like to unwind and relax?
My fiancé is very family oriented so we spend a lot of time with family if that be going out for dinner or spending time at family events.
