22 August 2025
Our next person on the People Not Products series is Head of Commercial, Mhairi Beeby. Check out her interview below on an exciting career that spans 15 years thus far with Aspen Solutions!
Can you tell us a bit about your career journey and what led you to Aspen Solutions? and what do you enjoy most about working at Aspen?
I started my career in IT sales back in 2004 with a small Value-Added Reseller (VAR), and I was hooked straight away. I loved the buzz of closing deals, the challenge of solving problems, and the chance to build real relationships with customers. A few years later, I joined a much larger national VAR, which gave me the opportunity to sharpen my consultative sales skills and take on bigger challenges.
Over time though, I realised I wanted to have a bigger impact locally — to work more closely with clients across a wider range of services and see the difference I was making. That’s what brought me to Aspen in 2010 as a Senior Account Manager.
Fifteen years on, I still get the same buzz from helping clients, but what really drives me now is growth — not just my own, but the growth of the people around me. Moving from sales into wider leadership has given me the chance to support colleagues, open up opportunities for them, and help shape how we work together. That’s incredibly rewarding.
What I enjoy most about Aspen is that it’s given me the space to grow into those roles, to keep challenging myself, and to make a difference in ways I hadn’t imagined when I first started out. For me, it’s always been about people — customers, colleagues, and the team — and that’s what makes the journey so meaningful.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
No two days are ever exactly the same, and that’s one of the things I enjoy most about my role. A typical day will usually involve a mix of supporting our teams, meeting with clients, and making sure our plans and priorities stay on track. Some of my time is spent looking at the bigger picture — where the company is headed and how we can improve — but just as important are the day-to-day conversations with colleagues, helping them overcome challenges or celebrating their wins.
What ties it all together is people. Whether I’m working with a client, catching up with a colleague, or making decisions about how we move forward, I’m most engaged when I’m connecting with others and helping them succeed. That variety, and the chance to make an impact in different ways every day, is what keeps the role so rewarding.
What’s been your most memorable moment or achievement at Aspen Solutions over the last 15 years and what are you looking forward to work wise?
It’s hard to pick just one, so I’ll share three moments that stand out for very different reasons.
COP26 was an incredible project — fast-paced, complex, and involving every part of the business. We were supporting a hugely diverse range of users and services, often in very challenging circumstances. My personal highlight (or maybe lowlight!) was hauling kit in a hand trolley for two miles once the security perimeter was in place. But honestly, what made it so memorable was seeing Aspen pull together as a team and deliver brilliantly under pressure.
The Cannes Film Festival was unforgettable for very different reasons. I had the opportunity to attend as a guest of HP, and suddenly I found myself walking a red carpet alongside Cate Blanchett — not something I ever expected in my career!
The Hotel Conversion Project was another huge highlight — leading a team of more than 40 onsite engineers, supported by our internal staff, to convert 29 live hotels with over 1,000 staff into a new franchised model. It meant living onsite, managing what felt like a hundred competing priorities at once, and running on very little sleep — but it was an incredible team achievement and something I’m really proud of.
Looking ahead, I’d love to do more work in the hospitality industry. Through that project we developed a really strong process for conversion, and I’m excited about the potential to build on it.
What advice would you give to someone looking to build a career in your field? What skills or qualities do you think are essential for success in your role?
My biggest piece of advice is to embrace continuous learning and stay adaptable. The world of technology and services never stands still, so curiosity is a real advantage — if you’re open to learning, you’ll keep growing.
Communication is another essential skill. Being able to clearly explain ideas, solutions, or strategies will always set you apart. But just as important is listening — really taking the time to understand customer needs, team dynamics, and project requirements. That’s been a huge part of my own success.
I’d also encourage anyone starting out to invest in building relationships. Networking isn’t just about events — it’s about engaging with colleagues, partners, and customers. Those connections open doors to opportunities you might not otherwise find.
And finally, problem-solving and attitude matter more than you might think. If you can approach challenges creatively and keep a positive, proactive outlook, you’ll not only stand out but also enjoy the journey a lot more.
How would you describe the culture at Aspen Solutions, and what makes it a great place to work?
Aspen has a really dynamic pace, but what makes it special is the way people come together. There’s a genuine sense of camaraderie here — colleagues are always ready to support one another, whether that’s sharing ideas, stepping in during busy periods, or simply offering encouragement. That spirit of teamwork is something I’ve always valued.
What also stands out is the focus on growth. Over the years I’ve had the chance to take on new challenges, learn different parts of the business, and shape my role in ways I’d never imagined at the start. That same opportunity is there for everyone, and it makes Aspen a place where you can really bring your best self to work and keep developing.
For me, the culture is all about a shared commitment — not just to our own success, but to delivering the best possible experience for our customers. When everyone is pulling in the same direction, it creates an atmosphere that’s positive, energising, and very rewarding to be part of.
When you’re not at work, how do you like to unwind and relax?
Most mornings start with my trainer and a swim — though I can’t say I always love the early alarm! Evenings are usually spent being walked by my four Weimaraners. Outside of that, I’m happiest with a book in one hand and a gin (or champagne) in the other, whether it’s at the theatre, a concert, or singing along to Taylor Swift (there’s an era to match every mood). Time with my friends and family is really important too — whether it’s a meal out, a cosy night in, or celebrating together. Add sunshine and a holiday into the mix, and that’s me at my most relaxed.
After 15 years, what’s next for you at Aspen Solutions?
After 15 years in sales leadership, my focus now is on the bigger picture — bringing our teams together, keeping us aligned, and making sure we’re building for the long term. For me, it’s about more than just new business; it’s about creating the teamwork and structure that will keep Aspen Solutions strong for the next 15 years.
